Strengthen bones and prevent osteoporosis
Another study in Canada found that drinking two glasses of tomato juice a day strengthens bones and prevents osteoporosis.
In the study, conducted at the University of Toronto in Canada, the researchers selected 60 postmenopausal women aged 50 to 60 and asked them to completely eliminate tomatoes and their products from their diet for a month.
One month later, biochemical tests showed that removing tomatoes from the diet increased a substance called "n-tloppeptide" in the blood. This compound is an indicator of bone health and its level rises in the blood or urine when there is bone tissue degradation.
In another part of the study, it was found that regular consumption of tomatoes reduced n-talopeptide in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of bone loss and preventing osteoporosis.
Researchers attribute the effect of tomatoes on bone tissue to its red pigment, lycopene.
