Almost all cells contain a molecular clock that regulates metabolic function according to the circadian cycle. Recent studies show that impaired circadian rhythm plays a role in many metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes.
Recent studies by researchers at the University of Geneva, examining pancreatic-derived cells from type 2 diabetes donors, show that disruption of the biological clock disrupts the function of insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
