night shift workers have more chances of getting breast cancers than men

Peter J. James, head of research team at Harvard University, says: "In our modern industrial society, artificial light exists almost everywhere. Our results suggest that the wide exposure of outdoor light at night can be a new risk factor for breast cancer. "

"It seems that melatonin, a hormone produced in the human brain, stops the growth of breast cancer tumors, but exposure to light can diminish it, because it interferes with our circadian rhythms The internal clock of our body, which controls sleepiness and alertness, increases the risk of breast cancer.

In this new study, the research team examined the data of about 110,000 women and considered the impact of night shift work.

The results showed that women exposed to the highest amount of light in the open air during the night had a 14% increased risk of breast cancer compared to women with the lowest exposure to light.

Researchers say the amount of outdoor light increases at night, so the incidence of breast cancer also increases, but they insist that further studies are needed to confirm the findings of study and identify potential mechanisms.
